I was annoyed to read of yet another vicious and unwarranted attack on a young chap and his mate in Southend by a three thugs who got away with an iphone and a wallet.

The description of the trio being of mixed race was easy enough to understand, but I was bemused to read that one of the them could be identified by his “Southend’ accent”

A Southend accent – you’ve got me there, never heard that one before. I’ve heard of an estuary accent, a cockney one, a Geordie or even an Essex accent but I’m not quite sure how any aspiring Poirot could ever get their little grey matter to work out the inflections and vowels difference of someone from hereabouts compared to a resident of , let’s say, Romford or Little Burstead!
