IF good old-fashioned glamour is your thing, then look no further than the Essex Antiques, Vintage, Retro and Collectors Fair at the Cliffs Pavilion.

The event will see hundreds of stallholders line the auditorium of the Westcliff theatre, with antique jewellery, clothes, furniture and decor, all on glittering display.

And if you think you may have a treasure of your own, there’s the opportunity to get your items valued by Chalkwell Auctions.

Organiser Trevor Cornforth, an auctioneer for the firm, says: “It’s very popular with the stallholders and buyers. There’s a very wide variety of stalls.”

Describing what antique and vintage lovers can expect, he adds: “We’ve a huge range of things. Appealing to the younger group, we’ve got a lot of vintage things, which is the big thing these days.

“We’ve got quite a lot of vintage jewellery and clothing. We’ve got vintage furniture and also antique silverware and jewellery and an interesting collection of Oriental stuff. We have some Buddhist items which are very popular.

“We have people selling all the big names as well, Moorcroft, Beswick, you can buy almost anything, from a pin to an elephant, as they used to say about Harrods.”

“The dealers cram as much in as they can on their stalls. It transforms from an empty theatre into an absolutely buzzing local Portobello Road.”

Trevor says the days of antiques being reserved for older collectors are well and truly gone.

He explains: “When I started running fairs over 20 years ago there were around 25 per cent seniors and 75 per cent non-seniors. Then we went through a reversal and it got to the stage where it was about 60 per cent seniors. But it’s swung back again because there’s such an interest in the vintage thing.”

The Essex Antiques, Vintage, Retro and Collectors Fair takes place at the Cliffs Pavilion on Sunday, from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Entrance is £3 for adults and £2 for senior citizens.
