Couldn’t agree more with county architect Susan Waldock (Jan 12) about the negative impact the planned Morrisons store would have on Hadleigh.

If an unstoppable giant wants to dominate such a large chunk of the town, at least it ought to fit in with the townscape, or preferably enhance it.

The building sucks. An ugly outsize shed, or a storage depot on an industrial estate?

This is a part of the Hadleigh regeneration area and should be influenced as such. The blight of a car park of the planned size along the main thoroughfare is bad enough.

Would it be beyond Morrisons’ architects to come up with something sympathetic, instead of an off-the-shelf design?

If some of the ideas suggested come to fruition, coming to Hadleigh, staying, relaxing, browsing and shopping might be a delight and that experience ought to be enhanced by the supermarket.

The present planned edifice would have the opposite effect.

Hadleigh is in the melting pot at present and an awful lot depends on what happens with all that available space up for grabs at the church oasis right now.

Let’s not miss such a unique opportunity for its future. Let’s put Hadleigh first and not the self-serving pressure of big businesses.
