Was amazed to read Essex Police is thinking of closing Canvey police station after announcing only a few months ago Benfleet police station was due to close.
Castle Point’s crime rate will go though the roof. At present Canvey’s crime rate has been stagnant and the rest of Castle Point has seen a decline.
I have seen first hand, evidence of illegal drug use and antisocial behaviour is a problem blighting Canvey, too. So if the police station goes, what next? Flats on the site? With the proposed new 3,000 houses being built on green belt land, surely a police station is a crucial facility.
A few years down the line, Essex Police will realise it has made a mistake. Where would the new station be built? On green belt land?
There are well over 40,000 people on Canvey and we have the right to have a police station. We will fight tooth and nail to keep it!
