Having been born at the end of the Second World War, I consider people of my age have enjoyed the best this country has ever had to offer.

I grew up in a country with plenty of open space, parks, school playing fields etc. With a population around 50 million, the National Health Service and police forces could cope and when you reached retirement age at 65 you could enjoy a pension.

Today, the health service cannot cope, the police cannot cope and the Government cannot afford, despite ever-increasing taxation, to maintain the services we expect and deserve.

In contrast, our grandchildren can look forward to probably never owning their own home, unless left one by deceased parents, and probably will be condemned to life in a flat converted from houses built in a more forward-thinking age.

They fear being assaulted when going out after dark and those lucky enough to have a job face working until they are 70, after which it will be a struggle to get by.

What a state governments have brought this country to over the past 65 years.

Surely, if we resign from the European Union, and stood alone as we always did, we could once again reclaim our country, make our own laws, deport undesirables and control immigration, thereby taking back our established way of life.

Yes, we did enjoy the best time ever in this country. A pity we won’t leave it as we found it.
