Despite the disruption and impending prospect of chaos at Cuckoo Corner, Southend, if the pointless traffic lights are installed, it is vital for the local economy that we secure the future of the shops on Earl’s Hall Parade.

However, that future is dependent upon the council listening to the traders on the parade, and local people whose access has been hampered since the work began last year.

It is imperative that adequate free parking is made available. The proposed parking layout allows spaces for ten vehicles, or one space per shop, in the service road, three less than before the works.

However, there is the possibility of providing an additional ten diagonal parking bays in the reservation area separating the service road from the roundabout.

The addition of extra parking would revitalise the fortunes of the businesses on the parade, not only encouraging passing trade, lost during the construction, to return, but also bringing in new custom from the local area.
