You recently reported the demise of the Coryton oil refinery, near Stanford-le- Hope, and the fact it had run up debts of billions of pounds.
I believe this facility should be nationalised.
The refinery is of considerable strategic importance to the country, and supplies 20 per cent of fuel to the south-east.
In time of conflict, such as the Suez crisis of 1956 when British and French forces seized the Suez Canal, oil becomes even more important.
The country would need to rely on facilities like Coryton.
