I have read with interest the recent debate regarding Southend High Street.
I live in Rochford, but thought last Sunday as the sun shone I would visit Southend, parking near Old Leigh to take a stroll along the front. Imagine my dismay when returning to my car I was greeted by a parking ticket.
I was not alone, there were several other dismayed visitors returning to find the same greeting.
My visit to Southend had now cost me an extra £25!
I admit to not reading the sign, as it was Sunday. I live in Rochford and we are used to free parking on Sundays.
So next time you fancy a Sunday out then visit Rochford. It has many free attractions, such as Hockley woods and Cherry Orchard park. If shopping is your preference then Rayleigh High Street has the ambience that a smaller town can provide.
If Southend treats its residents and visitors well they will return. If not they will go where they do feel welcomed.
