While thousands of motorists stew in two-mile tailbacks approaching Sadler’s Farm, I don’t understand why Tracey Chapman, county councillor responsible for highways, is so reluctant to use the temporary traffic lights in the evenings.

She says the council is constantly managing traffic flows at the roundabout and taking steps to reduce disruption to motorists.

Well, it’s not working!

In view of a probable tanker drivers’ strike, most motorists are trying to conserve fuel, but are being forced to waste gallons crawling home on a journey which normally takes then minutes but now takes an hour.

Mrs Chapman should consider these poor motorists and install the lights in the evening rush hour.

...At last, someone is finally telling the truth about Sadler’s Farm roundabout.

I don’t know exactly who, but it sure isn’t Tracey Chapman, or Essex County Council.

I have known since before Christmas – as I suspect have plenty of others – it wouldn’t be ready by the spring. We also had our doubts about it being ready for the Olympics.

Has Tracey Chapman even seen the work there, because it was patently obvious it would not be ready on time – even though she has said numerous times it would be.

...Since your article about works at Sadler’s Farm overrunning, I can’t help but notice the number of people working on site appears to have increased dramatically.
