POPULAR post office which shut down could be reborn nearby.
Post Office bosses have revealed they hope to restore the closed branch at the junction of Queen Anne’s Drive and Prince Avenue, Westcliff, by moving it to a new location.
The post office was forced to shut in October, after more than 20 years of service, because the building’s landlord decided to convert it into flats.
But the company has now proposed shifting the branch to the Dilbar Convenience Store, in Eastbourne Grove, Westcliff - just 400 metres away.
Mike Grimwade, a Liberal Democrat councillor for Prittlewell, has led the negotiations to save the post office.
He said: “This whole process has been conducted very efficiently and I can only thank the Post Office for that.
“They have been very helpful, especially given the sudden announcement of the closure of the previous office.
“This looks to be the most appropriate location - the park is as good and it is not far away for people to walk.”
