ALISON Moyet chose Southend Pier to shoot her latest pop video, with her youngest daughter, Caitlin.

The video for her new single, When I Was Your Girl, features Alison and Caitlin, who lip-syncs to her mum’s vocals while walking along the pier, and underneath it together in the rain.

Scenes of a bleak and atmospheric pier are interspersed throughout the video.

Alison, who is now 51, released her eighth solo album, The Minutes, on Monday.

The album, which features the new single, has been hugely acclaimed by critics ahead of its release, most notably Clash Magazine, who called it “her finest album in 20 years”.

Moyet, who was born in Billericay, said herself of the album: “I avoided listening to anything during the process of writing and recording this, choosing instead to be led by my own melodic voice, the one I find myself with now 30 years in!

“I have made an album mindless of industry mores that apply to middle aged women, and have shunned all talk of audiences, demographics and advert jazz covers.”

Alison was born Genevieve Alison Jane Moyet in 1961 and grew up in Basildon. She began her mainstream pop career in 1981 as one half of synthpop duo Yazoo, with former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke.

In 1983, they disbanded, with Clarke going on to form Erasure and Moyet pursuing a solo career.
