Two men have been taken to hospital following a crash involving a car and a dustcart on Canvey.
Firefighters were called to Somnes Avenue, near Castle Point Golf Club, shortly after 7.30am.
One person was trapped and fire crews used specialist cutting equipment to release the casualty by 8.15am.
A diversion is in place, routing drivers along Link Road, and traffic is slow in Long Road.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We sent two ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle, and an ambulance officer to a report of a collision between a car and a lorry.
“We treated a man with a head injury and a man with hip pain.
“The two patients were taken to Southend University Hospital for further treatment.”
