DETECTIVES have launched an investigation following the death of a baby.
Emergency services were called to a house in Gaywood, Laindon at about 4.30am on Monday morning after the reports that the child was in cardiac arrest.
The baby was rushed to Basildon Hospital in a critical condition but depite the best efforts of doctors sadly died.
Police officers arrived at the end of terrace property in Gaywood at about 5am and set up a police cordon.
The tot’s death is currently being treated as unexplained.
A spokesman from the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “We received a call at 4.27am on the 16th February to a report of a patient in cardiac arrest in Gaywood, Basildon.
“We sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew and ambulance officer to the scene.
“The patient was taken to Basildon Hospital for further treatment in a critical condition. Despite the best efforts of our staff, the patient was declared dead at hospital.”
