DETAILS of this year Village Green festival have been released, and organisers are keeping a controversial charge.

Metal Culture, which has organised the event at Chalkwell Park, off London Road, for the past six years, is keeping the £10 adult ticket price after charging festival goers for the first time last year.

The event will take place on July 11, and while a headliner has yet to be confirmed, the first raft of acts have been announced: Snowboy and the Latin Section, Hollie Cook, Asylums, Roland Gift, and The Selecter.

The event, which bills itself as an arts and music festival, has kept its entrance charges the same, and bosses insist the ticket prices are heavily subsidised by Southend Council.

Sean McLoughlin, the festival’s event director, said, “We are delighted that we have been able to hold tickets at the same price despite rising costs and further cuts to the arts and other services.

“Ticket prices are still heavily subsidised by Metal’s partnership funding through Arts Council England, Southend on Sea Borough Council and other partners – including a fantastic team of volunteers who work so hard to make the day an amazing event to start the summer for the local community.”

Early bird tickets are now on sale, which will be £8 for adults available until April 1, but it is not known whether a main stage headliner will be announced before that date.

Metal has also set aside 500 free tickets for low income families who have a Southend Advantage Card.

In total, the site’s capacity is around 25,000 and 2015 will see more events for youngsters to enjoy, including a new Games Tent featuring a host of activities for both children and adults.

Last year, more than 20,000 revellers were treated to a headline set from Brit Award winner Beth Orton.

Mr McLoughlin added: “There is always a hardcore of regular fans who love Village Green and come without fail year on year. Our early bird discount is a small thank you for their continued support.”
