JOHN and Elizabeth Clark have a thing or two to teach young couples about sticking together.

The couple, from Flamboro Close, Eastwood, have just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and they say there is nothing to it.

Mrs Clark, 93, said: "We get on fine together. We have had a very happy life. We're very close. He is a wonderful husband, he really is."

Mrs Clark said the key to success was to talk things over following an argument.

She added: "We might argue, but we talk it out."

The couple's romance started after a chance encounter.

Mrs Clark said: "He just passed me in the street. I'd had to go the hospital. When I came out, he came over and asked how I was. I thought it was very thoughtful.

"From then, we've never troubled anyone else ever again and have just been together."

She said of her husband, now 92: "He's very kind, he would help anyone. He is a very thoughtful chap. I wouldn't change him for anything."

Mrs Clark said it was always important to do things together or share interests.

She said: "We used to go walking together and we loved our bingo.

"We don't go out much anymore. Mostly we like to watch television."

The couple have three daughters, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs Clark said there was no big secret to their long-term marital bliss except to be kind and considerate.

She said: "We've been together 70 years. We've always stayed together and I hope we always will."
