YOUNG chefs cooked up a treat for fellow pupils and staff as part of a gifted and talented project.
Pupils at William Edwards School and Sports College, Grays, participated in a Ready, Steady, Cook style goody bag challenge where they baked a variety of scones, muffins and cakes.
The students, from Years Eight to Ten, also created a lunchtime menu based on the theme Best of British with a Twist.
Diane Iliffe, food technology teacher, said: "The two best projects will be submitted to the British Nutrition Foundation into a national competition.
"The students have also written letters to invite members of staff to be their official taste testers."
The task was set by competition sponsors Sainsbury's, Design and Technology Association, the British Nutrition Foundation and the Department for Education and Skills.
