PLANS by a Southend convenience store to sell alcohol from 6am to midnight, seven days a week, are being opposed by local people.

Thilakasekaram Inthrajith, of the Londis Mini Market in Westborough Road, is currently allowed to sell alcohol from 6am to 11pm.

His plans for extra hours have been agreed by the police, but are being opposed by the Residents' Association of Westborough.

The application will be considered on Tuesday by Southend Council's licensing sub committee.

In a report to the committee, environment director Andy Lewis said a number of extra conditions had been agreed with the police if the application was approved by the sub committee.

These include operation of a proof-of-age scheme, the operation of a CCTV system on the premises and banning anyone creating crime or disorder on the premises.

He added the Residents' Association of Westborough was maintaining its objection on the grounds of crime and disorder, public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.
