HUNDREDS of young musicians have been left in limbo after a Thurrock-wide music project was axed.

ReZonance - Thurrock Music Action Zone - was funded by London-based firm, Youth Music, for three years, and workshops were regularly held for children and teenagers.

But now Youth Music has pulled out of the project, it has left around 500 of the borough's youngsters without a place to learn and play music.

Megan Davis-Yuille, ten, of Lucas Road, Grays, attended ReZonance workshops at Grays' Thameside Theatre with her sister, Ella, eight and brother, Spike, six.

She said: "I have met the greatest people and had the greatest fun. We were having a really good time.

"We had songs we hadn't finished yet and everyone was in tears. This group has had a huge affect on my life."

Megan's mum Sarah-Jane Davis, 34, said: "It's awful. There was lots of tears."

A Youth Music spokesman wouldn't comment on why the decision was made.

Elliott Spiteri, a spokesman for Thurrock Council, said the council was in no way to blame.

He said: "Up until December 2006 it was assumed there would be another year's funding. But Youth Music has decided to restructure their music action zones and have decided not to continue Thurrock ReZonance.

"The council will continue to seek funding for a youth music project in Thurrock.

"A letter has gone out to everyone involved in ReZonance to inform them of its closure."
