BEAVERS have been competing to be king of the castle and raise money for charity.

The 1st Prittlewell Beavers managed to build more than 26 sandcastles on Shoebury Common beach as part of their marathon challenge, called Cheeky Monkey.

The challenge was organised to raise money for Children with Leukaemia and to encourage youngsters to take on a task themed around the figure 26, which is the number of miles in a marathon.

Leader Sue Binney said: "They were looking forward to coming to the beach and absolutely loved it.

"More often than not the fundraisers we do go to charity such as Havens Hospices and St Mary's Church.

"It's great for the Beavers and we are also doing a challenge badge at the same time."

The Beavers are also going to be rewarded with prizes for how much money they raise for charity.

Adventure Island, Southend, has donated wristbands to the group for the Beaver who raises the most money.
