A CANVEY teenager's dreams of an RAF career are off to a flying start after he won a prestigious scholarship.
Air Cadet, Sergeant Jack Watson, 17, of Komberg Crescent, Canvey, was one of only 125 young people in the country to be offered a coveted place on the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme.
The chosen cadets complete 12 hours of free flying instruction over 14 days, before gaining the prized cadet pilot wings to wear on their uniform.
Jack said: "It's excellent to have achieved this and I'm feeling really fantastic. I'm looking forward to being a pilot after university."
Jack hopes to study aerospace manufacturing and engineering at unversity.
Cadets from the Canvey Squadron experience flying in an RAF aircraft several times during the year.
Commanding officer, Flight Lieutenant Nick Weston said: "Jack is an outstanding cadet."
