A DATE for the public inquiry into plans to store liquid natural gas on Canvey should be set by the end of the summer.
Yvette Cooper, minister for housing and planning at the Department for Communities and Local Government, has answered a written question in Parliament from Castle Point MP Bob Spink asking for a timescale on an inquiry.
The Calor Gas consortium appealed on March 15, against a decision by Castle Point Council to refuse itsplanning application to store 108,000 tonnes of the gas at the site, in Thames Road.
Mrs Cooper said the planning inspectorate aimed "to arrange a public local inquiry date within 22 weeks from the starting date for the appeal".
If the Government keeps to the schedule, a date should be known by August 16. The gas plant was also discussed in a separate Commons debate on the need for tighter health and safety legislation in the workplace.
