THE Thurrock Society for Artists with Disabilities has been given a £562 grant by Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation.

The group, formed in April 2003, is based at Grays Adult Education Centre.

The grant is its share of a £360,000 fund, held by the corporation to help encourage and promote activities by voluntary and community groups.

The grant has bought equipment and supplies, including a professional artist's lamp, a PA system for use at demonstrations, table easels, lightweight drawing boards, paints, brushes and paper and photo printer.

Society chairman Peggy Randall, said: "It makes such a difference at meetings.

"I'm amazed because it only took two weeks between applying for the grant and getting it."

Mrs Randall is also keen to welcome new members.

She said: "We have a relaxed and congenial atmosphere at meetings and members spend their time painting in their chosen medium and enjoying each other's company."

Members will next display their work at the Orsett Show on Saturday, September 1.
