FRIENDSHIP is the most important part of a happy and long marriage, a couple celebrating their diamond wedding say.
Beatrice and Jack Thompson have spent 60 years together after marrying on August 10, 1947, at St Mary's Church, Prittlewell. Mrs Thompson, 80, of Rectory Chase, Southchurch, said: "Friendship has to be the most important thing and being able to share."
Mr Thompson was born in Southend and his wife is originally from Barking. They spent the first part of their married life in the town before moving to Devon and then a village near Skegness.
After 30 years away from Southend, Mrs Thompson said: "It's good to be back in Southend, and lovely to be so near Carol and the family."
