A YOUNG woman was trapped when a shop sign came crashing down on top of her in Southend High Street.
The 20-year-old was walking past the former bedding shop Zoom the Loom when the 15ft high shop frontage above her suddenly collapsed and knocked her to the ground.
Shoppers rushed to help the stricken woman as she lay trapped under the metal sign, which was so heavy it took five men to pull it off.
She was left with painful back, head and shoulder injuries and was taken to Southend Hospital for treatment.
Joy Hale, spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said the woman victim suffered head wounds as well as cuts and bruises, but said her injuries were not life threatening.
