BIKE tagging is on track to beat the thieves as more and more people get their cycles security marked.

More than 50 cyclists flocked to a second tagging' event organised by the group, Southend Cycle Watch, at Central Library, in Victoria Avenue.

Mick Holland, Southend Neighbourhood Watch Ad-ministrator said: "Many of the bikes were brand new or had been received as birthday presents. Their owners came along to the sessions knowing we were able to help protect their bikes from thieves.

"Cycle Watch has been safeguarding bikes for over a year, giving hundreds of cyclists peace of mind."

The recent event was supported by Essex Criminal Justice Board as part of a week-long display, called Inside Justice, held at the library.
