FLYTIPPERS have dumped building materials on farmland again, days after the council spent £500 removing junk from the same site.

A pile of building materials, including a broken sink, was left on land off a dirt track near the Sadlers Farm roundabout on Canvey Way.

This is the second time that commerical waste has been disposed of on this strip of land in as many week.

Councillor Peter Greig, who represent the Winter Gardens ward, first noticed broken tiles, parts of an old car and building materials on August 2.

He asked the council to remove the unsightly mess and erect a gate to stop flytippers from gaining access to the dirt track.

The council removed the waste at a cost of £500 and said it would look into the possibility of in-stalling a gate.

Mr Greig said: "It's happened again, I warned the council that this would happen. What's more people will do it again and again unless we stop them."

John Anderson, ward councillor for Canvey Central, added: "To be fair, I think the council has always said that it will heavily fine anyone who is found to be flytipping.

"It's a blot on the landscape caused by people who are too lazy to go a commercial tip, or are unwilling to pay for it to be removed."

Canvey councillor Nev-ille Watson, who also represents Winter Gardens, added: "Residents who fly-tip are the worst type of residents.

"But my suspicion is that these materials are being dumped by a builder who does not live here but lives nearby.

"I believe that person drives past Canvey Way on their way to work. If anyone knows who is doing this I would urge them to contact their ward councillor or the police. It's destroying our local environment."

Councillor Ray Howard, chairman of Castle Point's environment committee, said: "The land in question is technically in the district Basildon, although the access road is in Canvey.

"We are looking for the landowner through Land Registry investigations.

"We will then be seeing if a physical barrier can be put up at the site to prevent future flytipping there."

Anyone caught fly-tipping faces up to a £50,000 fine or six months in prison. To report someone flytipping, call the council hotline on 01268 792792, or Rayleigh Police on 01268 775533.
