DEVELOPERS have now scrapped plans to include a swimming pool in a new flats and leisure centre development on the site of an old Westcliff hotel.
Southend Council's development control committee has agreed changes to plans already approved for the site of the old Grosvenor House hotel, in the Leas, Westcliff.
Work has already started and as a result, developers have found the need to amend the original plans to meet building regulations.
The pool has been withdrawn and trees which were to have been retained in front of the building will now be cut down.
Melvyn Day, vice-chairman of the committee, said: "We had a site visit last year, when we had a look at this development.
"I remember some of the residents next door in Grosvenor Court objected to the swimming pool, so I think this will please them."
Brothers Mukesh and Omash Aggarwal are developing four blocks, ranging from six to eleven storeys, and containing 36 flats and a gym. The proposals also include 53 parking spaces.
They have also agreed to pay £52,475 towards the cost of extra school places in the borough which are expected to be made necessary by the development.
