A VOLUNTEER group is seeking young at heart gardeners, ballroom dancers and cooks to boost its project bringing different generations together.

Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services hopes its Uniting the Ages initiative will help banish popular age related stereotypes such as "hoodies" and "wrinklies".

Workshops were held at Castle View School, Canvey, over the summer, allowing youngsters to teach the over- 60s IT skills.

Older residents are now being sought to pass on their cookery, gardening and dancing expertise to teenagers.

Michaela White, head of development at CAVS said: "By the time children get to their teenage years they aren't really mixing with the older generations.

"Sometimes youngsters can be badly perceived by older people who see them as hoodies.

"Young people can also think of older people as wrinklies who sit around watching daytime TV and complain.

"We want to get the different generations talking and break down those misconceptions."
