A WREATH has been laid at graves in Rayleigh Cemetery in memory of those who died in battle.
Graves there are for some local men, as well as others from the Glasgow Highlanders and further afield.
John Dickson, president of the Rayleigh branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "Some of them have families elsewhere, some came from eastern Europe.
"Their families were behind the Iron Curtain after the war so they would want us to remember their sons. That's how I view it, they are someone's son."
Mr Dickson, 77, said it was also important to remember our soldiers who are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He said: "There are two aspects of remembrance - the other is raising money for those families who have suffered, the widows and children. There are a lot of young widows now and young bereaved children."
