A MOTORIST who left for sale notices taped to her car windows faces a £60 fine after she was accused of using a council car park to try to sell the vehicle.
Gill Ockelford, 43, parked her black Fiat Punto in the main council-owned car park in High Street, Billericay, at midday yesterday.
The mother-of-two, of Dorset Way, Billericay, paid for and displayed her ticket, but returned to find a parking ticket taped to her car.
She said: "I couldn't believe it, I first looked to see if I'd parked straight in the bay and then I thought somebody was playing a joke.
"I was determined to be polite when I spoke to the first parking attendant I found, but she didn't know why I'd got the ticket."
Eventually another attendant appeared who explained the notices taped to the front, side and back windows were an offence.
Basildon Council spokesman Chris Johnson said: "As signs in the car park clearly state, the sale of any goods or vehicles is prohibited.
"This is because, as the car park operator, we become part of any transaction that is carried out and therefore have a liability for anything sold.
"Any motorist who feels they have been unfairly penalised has the right of appeal and we would invite them to contact us."
Mrs Ockelford has confirmed she will appeal against the fine.
