A DRIVER involved in an accident while almost three times over the drink-drive limit has been jailed for three months.

Anthony Potter, 24, crashed on September 30. As a result, an elderly woman had to be cut from her car.

Southend magistrates heard Potter had taken his uncle's white Renault van without permission. He collided with the woman's Mercedes car in Eastern Esplanade, Canvey, having apparently lost control on a bend.

Potter, of Varley Road, Canning Town, London, had 102 mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Potter admitted aggravated vehicle taking, drink-driving and driving while uninsured and with no licence. He was banned from driving for five years as well as being jailed.

The court was told Potter accepted he had been drinking and was "genuinely remorseful", though he felt he was not responsible for the crash.

He was sacked by his uncle after the crash.
