These are the most dangerous roads in Southend for young drivers.

An interactive map shows you where ‘fatal’, ‘serious’ and ‘slight’ cycling accidents have happened in your area by using the latest police and government data.

Crash Map shows that 294 accidents involving young drivers happened in Southend from 2014 to 2019.

Michelle Harrington, road safety manager at RoSPA, said:

“Drivers aged 17 to 24 make up just seven per cent of UK licence holders, yet are involved in around one in four of all crashes that result in someone being killed or seriously injured.

“This is largely due to inexperience, so it’s vital that young people’s learning experiences on the road are as extensive and involved as possible.”  

The A13, London Road, running through the centre of Southend had the highest number of crashes involving young people than any other road in the area.

An accident blackspot for young drivers is around the Park Road, Park Street and Princes Street junctions, with seven reported accidents in the last five years. 

At the other end of London Road, at the Hamstel Road and Lifstan Road junctions there were three 'slight' accidents reported, outside of the Just a Bevy store. 

Along the Eastern Esplanade by the Lifstan Way turning there were two 'serious' crashes reported involving young drivers. 

The Hamlet Court Road crossroads on London Road is an accident blackspot for young drivers, with five accidents recorded in this area. 

Northbound on Victoria Avenue there have been a number of accidents involving young drivers reported, including a single vehicle accident near Harcourt Avenue in 2015 that was fatal.

Both directions on the A1159 have seen a high quantity of reported accidents involving young drivers, particularly around Jones Memorial Recreation Ground.

The Chancellor Road roundabout to the south of the town has seen three crashes involving young drivers in the last five years - one was 'serious' in 2015.

Marine Parade by Adventure Island has also seen a number of accidents in the same period there have been two 'slight' crashes reported plus one 'serious' on Pier Hill.
