THE parents of a beloved young man who died in a crash feel they have no justice for their son.

Conor Wells sadly died on November 24, 2019 after being struck by a car on Somnes Avenue, Canvey just after 4am.

Liam Morrissey had been fined for driving with defective eyesight at the time of the crash, but was not charged in relation to his death.

While the crash was deemed an accident, Donna Newman, Conor’s mum, believes the police investigation let them down.

Essex Police have insisted that their investigation was “thorough and exhaustive”.

Mrs Newman, 47, said: “Conor had alcohol in his system, equivalent to two to three pints of beer.

“He had walked 7.2 miles in the right direction home, and it was a cold night. So he knew exactly what he was doing and had crossed many roads.

Conor is survived by his two sisters aged 18 and eight. His funeral saw 300 people attend.

Mrs Newman added: “Essex Police have failed us and given us the life sentence.

“We miss him so much.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The death of Conor Wells is a tragedy and our thoughts and sympathies go out to his family.

“We carried out a thorough and exhaustive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, examining all the evidence available to us and carrying out reconstructions of what happened.

“However, we were not able to identify any evidence to support charges of causing death careless driving or causing death by dangerous driving.

“Whenever someone dies following a collision, support is provided to their family through a family liaison officer. We also supplied information about external agencies which may be able to provide them further specialist support.”
