Parking is set to be off limits on a host of seafront roads in a bid to make sure the public adheres to guidelines put in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The third national lockdown has resulted in all of us continuing to spend extensive periods of time indoors.

To ensure daytrippers do not drive to the seafront or other usually popular areas of our seaside town, Southend Council has confirmed a list of roads where vehicle parking will be prohibited from February 11.

Parking, waiting, loading, unloading and stopping vehicles on Belton Way West, Belton Way East, Belton Gardens North and South car park, Belton Bridge, Leigh High Street, Chalkwell Esplanade, The Leas, Western Esplanade, Marine Parade, Fairheads Green car park, Seaway car park, The Gasworks car park, Eastern Esplanade, Thorpe Esplanade, Shoebury Common North and South car parks, Ness Road, George Street and Shoebury East Beach car park will not be allowed.

A statement read: “The council is satisfied that these restrictions are required owing to the danger to the public of gathering or promenading in groups on the affected roads or public open spaces following the advice of the government in respect of social distancing during the Covid-19 emergency.”

>Gasworks will result in part of a Southend road being closed.

Southend Council has revealed vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding into Barnard Road between its junctions with London Road and Eaton Road.

Waiting, loading and unloading will not be possible either.

The restrictions come into force from February 15 as gas main replacement works take place.
