EXTRA Government cash to help the homeless has been pumped into Southend by the Government.
Southend Council will be given £150,000 for each of the next three years to help prevent homelessness in the borough.
Kevin Bonavia prospective Labour candidate for Rochford and Southend East said he was delighted with the cash injection. He also paid tribute to volunteers at the Harp homelessness project in Westcliff for their efforts in helping the homeless.
Mr Bonavia said: "The Government's funding announcement for homelessness services means more help for some of the most vulnerable people in Southend. I would encourage the council to use these funds to complement the good work Southend charities do day in and day out."
Mr Bonavia said it was the first time the Department of Comm- unities and Local Government had awarded a three year settlement which would help the council plan for the long term.
