Parts of two busy Wickford roads are set to be pedestrianised for a trial period.

Essex County Council have confirmed motor vehicles will be prohibited from stretches of Wickford High Street and Market Road one day every week.

The High Street will be off limits from its junction with Station Approach to its link-up with the A129 London Road.

Market Road, meanwhile, cannot be entered from its junction with the High Street.

The new restrictions, which are described as an experiment, will apply every Saturday between 5am and 6pm.

The regulations are set to come into force from May 8 and are due to last for a maximum of 18 months.

>A stretch of the A13 is set to be off limits on two consecutive nights, causing disruption for motorists.

Pitsea Bypass will be temporarily closed from the Broadway Link Roundabout for a distance of more than two miles.

The sliproad from Five Bells Roundabout North onto the A13 Pitsea Bypass will be out of bounds, along with the Brackendale Avenue slip road which joins the A13.

The closures are scheduled to commence on May 21 for two nights, from 9pm to 5am.

Verge maintenance works will be undertaken by Essex County Council during the closures.

It is feared the restrictions could result in traffic building up on surrounding roads.

An alternative route will be available via Nether Mayne, Fobbing Farm Roundabout, Roundacre New Roundabout, Roundacre, Broadmayne Roundabout, Broadmayne, Mopsies Roundabout, Lincoln Road, South Mayne, High Road, Broadway Link Roundabout and Pitsea Bypass.

>A busy section of a Southend road will be out of bounds over the course of a four-hour period next month.

Vehicles will be prohibited from entering Priory Crescent at the junction with Cuckoo Corner Roundabout to the junction with Sutton Road.

The closure, which is required while Essex & Suffolk water works take place, is scheduled to commence from 8pm on May 13 until midnight.

Motorists are advised to take advantage of an alternative route via Victoria Avenue, East Street or Sutton Road.
