THREE arrests have been made following a "targeted attack" in Leigh last night, it has been confirmed.

The attack , which saw a teenager injured on the Leigh Broadway, is reported to be a stabbing, however this has still yet to be confirmed.

The teenager, who was rushed to hospital, was left with injuries that aren't believed to be life threatening.

Essex Police believe the injuries the incident was a targeted attack.

The force has thanked passers by for helping the injured boy alongside officers at the scene.

A cordon was in place until around 2am, the Echo understands.

Michelle Davies, of the South Command team, said: “Firstly, we would like to thank the members of the public who valiantly stepped in to provide urgent medical assistance and those who have already helped officers with our enquiries.

“Your support really does make a difference.

“We know this incident will be concerning for those of you who work and live in the area, but please know that we are taking this very seriously and we are confident that there is no threat to the wider public.

“We believe that both parties involved are known to each other and that this was a targeted attack, as is the case with many incidents of this nature.

“Emergency services responded swiftly and with your help, our officers made three quick arrests and those people remain in custody.

“You will see officers on patrol in the area and carrying out enquiries.

A spokesman for Essex Police sai: "We want to thank members of the public for their help after a teenager was injured in Leigh last night.

"We were called to reports that a teenager had been injured in Broadway around 8.50pm, Thursday 3 June.

"When officers arrived, members of the public had helped give assistance to the injured boy and others who had witnessed the incident provided officers with information to help progress our investigation.

"Within minutes, three arrests were made.

"The boy was taken to hospital for further treatment and thankfully, his injuries are not considered to be life threatening or life changing."

The police's investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information or CCTV, dashcam or ring doorbell footage from the area is asked to contact them on 101, quoting incident 1485 of June 3.
