A DAY centre for the elderly is £1,000 better off thanks to the Royal Pigeon Racing Association.
Major Claude Hill, who is now retired, belongs to the association and asked for a donation to the Tudors Day Centre, at the Tyrells Centre, Thundersley.
Staff at the centre have looked after his wife Winifred, who suffers from dementia, for several years.
He said: "They are wonderful at the centre and I don't know what I would do without them. I was so pleased when the association agreed to donate this money."
Castle Point MP Bob Spink visited the centre to formally hand over the donation, which will be used to help pay for day trips.
He said: "The centre enables people to go out into the community, to meet others, have a more fulfilling social life and enjoy a day out occasionally.
"It's a fantastic initiative and I congratulate Major Hill for getting the money."
