A HAIR salon is £16,000 out of pocket after thieves broke in and grabbed everything they could - even pairs of scissors.

They smashed in a rear metal fire door at Confidence Hairdressers in London Road, Leigh, and smashed mirrors and windows in the salon.

They escaped with 50 hairpieces, hair products and about £800 from tills and tip-jars.

They stole every set of keys in the building, a computer and even snatched pairs of professional hairdressing scissors.

Police think they used pink recycling bags to carry their haul away along London Road, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The total damage and cost of items stolen was £16,000.

Devastated owner Lisa Forward said: "I'm scared stiff they are going to come back.

"I got a call from a friend of mine, who is a police officer, at about 5pm on Monday to say she had bad news.

"I just cannot believe it."

Mrs Forward, who has shut the salon on Mondays for the past six weeks, had planned to go in for a sun bed on Monday afternoon.

She said: "From what my neighbours have told the police, it sounds like they broke in on Monday.

"I never thought this would happen.

"In five years I've never had any trouble."

Mrs Forward says she had noticed two men hanging around the shop about two weeks ago and has told officers.

Police want to hear from anyone with any information about the break-in, which took place between 5.45pm on Saturday and 4.15pm on Monday.
