A PETITION demanding traffic lights are placed at a mini-roundabout on Canvey has been presented to Essex County Council leader Lord Hanning-field.
More than 250 people have called for the changes to be made at the junction, between Somnes Avenue and Central Wall Road.
Residents allege speeding vehicles crossing the mini-roundabout fail to spot vehicles joining the junction from Climmen Road.
Mary Windsor, of Central Wall Cottages, said she saw a cyclist narrowly avoid an accident earlier this week.
She said: “The poor biker almost got sandwiched between a van and a people carrier as he came out of Climmen Road. Other locals don’t seem to understand what give way to traffic from the right means.”
Canvey councillor Ray Howard presented the petition to Lord Hanning-field at the council offices in Chelm-sford.
He said: “It’s only a matter of time be-fore something serious happens at that roundabout. I trust Lord Hanningfield and his team will look into it.”
