A DRAMA and dance course has been started on Canvey for adults with learning disabilities.

The course, run by the charity, Castle Point Crossroads, caters for people with all kinds of physical and learning disability and is now in its second week.

Polly Bartram, manager of the charity, said the lessons were a great help for people leaving full-time education.

She said: “Many people with learning disabilities finish school at about 25 and there is absolutely nothing for them to do.

“It can be very depressing for them and also a big strain on their families, who can become full-time carers. We hope they can come along to our classes and have some fun.”

The course will teach students the basics of drama, with the eventual aim of allowing those on it to stage a performance.

She said: “At the moment it’s just a case of the students getting to know one another, but I know many of them are itching to put on a big spectacle.”

The lesson are held at the Crossroads Centre, in Charfleets Farm Way, Canvey, every Thursday from 10.30am.
