A CAMERA club founded in Leigh, in 1929 is starting its 80th year with a record number of members.
Leigh Camera Club was founded in the front room of a bungalow by six amateur photographers.
From humble beginnings, a thriving club boasting almost 90 members has grown.
Celebrations for the anniversary will officially begin with the club’s annual exhibition in September, but events are being organised throughout the year, including talks, inter-club competitions and displays.
Membership secretary Ron Willis said: “I think the advent of digital photography has made people a lot more interested in getting the most out of their cameras.
“We have had more than 30 new members join in the past six months which is great.
“It’s a very friendly club and everyone really enjoys sharing their knowledge. We would encourage anyone interested in finding out more about photography to come along and see what we do.”
The club meets at Leigh Community Centre, in Elm Road, every Thursday at 7.45pm.
