PEOPLE suffering from a rare and incurable condition that causes chronic pain, are set to benefit from a new treatment programme.
Between 2 and 4.5 per cent of the UK population suffer with fibromyalgia, a condition which affects muscles, tendons and ligaments, causing pain all over the body and extreme tiredness.
An eight-week course to help patients cope with their condition and provide advice about symptoms, treatment options and relaxation is about to be tested at Basildon Hospital.
Claire Rumble, senior physiotherapist for NHS South West Essex Community Services, which is running the pilot scheme, said: “Fibromyalgia is a condition which can have a devastating impact on people’s lives.
“Although there is no cure, this programme is designed to help patients to cope with and manage their pain in order to enjoy a better quality of life.”
