A LEIGH salon has signed up to a campaign to get hairdressers and beauticians in the area to back Fairtrade produce.
The Fair Cut campaign is hoping to encourage all salons to serve Fairtrade tea and coffee to their clients and help raise awareness of the Fairtrade movement.
Hair, in Leigh Road, is the first salon to sign up to the initiative, which aims to get Southend and Leigh recognised as Fairtrade towns.
Owner Terry Abbot said: “At Hair we are proud to be associated with the Fair Cut campaign by offering our clients Fairtrade coffee and tea. It’s easy for us to do and it makes such a difference.”
David Elcock, Fairtrade borough campaigner, said: “A whole town of salons serving Fairtrade refreshments would make a big difference to the treatment of workers growing coffee and tea for our consumption.”
