A SUPERMARKET has paid £100 compensation to a family who found used condoms in a packaging around four cans of beer. Derek Halliday, 48, of Glenmore Street, South- church, said his 18-year-old daughter Hannah was sick after discovering them. Mr Halliday said: “She and my wife were terribly upset by it. I can’t imagine how they got in there, whether it was in the warehouse or on the production line.” The family took the Cobra Zero% beers back to Asda in Shoebury. Both the supermarket and the brewer have apologised. Adrian McKeon, chief executive of Cobra Beer, said the company had launched an investigation. He said: “I’ve already spoken with the customer concerned to express my personal disappointment at this regrettable situation. “My understanding is there was an item contained in the outer cardboard packaging – which is not tamper proof.” Cobra outsources the packing process to another company. Asda spokeswoman Emma Broadbent said: “We apologise for this customer’s experience. We take our customers’ views seriously. We have rigorous controls and procedures in place and are looking into this with Cobra, the supplier, to ensure this doesn't happen again. “We have offered the customer a £100 gesture of goodwill in apology.”
