MORE than 6,000 people have now signed the petition calling for the State Cinema in Grays not to be converted into shops and flats.
Campaigners presented the petition to Thurrock Council at the recent full council meeting.
It urges the council to push for the Grade II listed building to be restored and used exclusively as an entertainment venue.
Restorating the building is already in Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation’s North Grays Design Brief, but the proposal is for a mixture of flats, shops, and a smaller cinema in the building.
