FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours battling a chimney fire in a family home.
The blaze started at a house in East Street, Prittlewell, about 6.30pm today.
It is believed to have begun from a log burner that caused soot in the chimney to catch alight.
Police blocked off the whole road while firefighters from Southend station battled the blaze.
A woman in the house at the time was uninjured.
