A ROAD on Southend seafront was closed yesterday after a water main burst.
It is thought the freezing cold weather caused the cast iron pipe, under Eastern Esplanade, to spring a leak.
Waterboard officials and Southend Council agreed the road should be closed for safety reasons.
It was shut on Wednes-day evening and reopen-ed yesterday lunchtime, causing traffic to be div-erted.
No residential properties were affected.
Sarah Pinkerton, spo-keswoman for Essex and Suffolk Water, said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“It was agreed the road should close as heavy vehicles could have damaged the surface.
“The main was repaired while it was live, so nobody would have lost the supply to their home.”
