BOWLING enthusiasts had a helping hand from the mayor of Southend at the switch-on of their new outdoor lights.
Mayor Gwen Horrigan switched on the lights at the Priory Park Pavilion in front of members from Priory Park Associated Bowling Clubs, based at the park in Victoria Avenue.
The clubs installed the lights thanks to a £5,000 award from the Government’s Grassroots Grant fund.
Club chairman Ray Matthews said: “This now opens up new opportunities to extend the use of the pavilion for the four clubs, three ladies’ clubs and a mixed club.
“We will be able to extend our activities of outdoor bowls, short mat bowls, table tennis, whist drives and social events for our members and the community.”
