A special night is being held in honour of a man with Down’s Syndrome who was attacked by yobs.

Celebrities, including American rapper Cream and Jo O’Meara formerly of pop group S-club 7, will both be performing at the event taking place at the Sky bar, on Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park.

Cash from the evening will go to the Pioneer School, in Church Road, Basildon, where Martin Mann, now 27, was a pupil.

Taking place tomorrow, the evening will also feature music from Ska band Swagger and DJ Pete Ferrant.

During an auction, items going under the hammer include a signed boxing glove from Ricky Hatton, a signed glove from five-times women’s boxing champion Jane Couch and a signed pair of Frank Lampard’s football boots.

The Sky bar is donating its venue and staff free of charge.

It comes as the membership of a Facebook page, set up in support of Martin, has soared from 19,000 members to more than 30,000.

Nadine Gazzard, a friend of Martin’s dad, Paul, who helped organise the event and the Facebook page, said people were simply outraged by the attack She said: “Martin was absolutely thrilled when I showed him the messages and how many people are supporting him.”

Martin, from Great Spenders, Basildon, was out walking his dog, Beck, in Holy Cross Park, in Church Road, Basildon, on Sunday April 12 when he was set upon by four thugs.

They punched him, fracturing his eye socket.

Officers have yet to arrest anyone for the attack. The event at Sky Bar starts at 8pm and finishes at 1am.

Entry on the door is £5. All the money goes to the school.
